Love Beaconsfield

We all Love Beaconsfield, and the Beaconsfield Society has championed a range of initiatives over the years to keep our town beautiful.

We have organised many town-wide litter picks where local residents have generously given their time to clean up Beaconsfield’s streets and spaces. Our record was 56 volunteers and 60 bin bags full of litter! We have also supported local Duke of Edinburgh Award students to volunteer for regular litter picking.

Have you noticed lots of cherry trees around town? In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Beaconsfield used to be famous for its commercial cherry orchards and of course we are reminded of this every time we go down Cherry Tree Road. As part of the Beaconsfield Society’s efforts in greening our streets, in recent years we have offered discounted cherry blossom trees for residents to plant in their front gardens. More than 100 trees have been planted already!

On the environmental front, we ran another initiative to plant wildflowers in Beaconsfield to support bees and wildlife. Volunteers helped to fill packets of seeds and deliver them to houses all over town, and we received much positive feedback on the unexpected gifts and colourful displays. We have also organised bulb planting on some of the patches of land around town, and the results of the volunteers’ efforts can still be seen each Spring.

There are some areas where Beaconsfield has been looking in need of a little love: from damaged pavements, dirty signs, broken benches, old posters, graffiti, potholes, overgrown hedges and weeds, there are plenty of things to fix. Beaconsfield Society volunteers have taken action to bring some improvements, both through documenting issues and talking to the appropriate bodies to have them fixed and through rolling our sleeves up and helping out. One way in which we can all help to bring some focus onto problems needing fixing is to report any issues via www.fixmystreet.com. These reports are sent to Buckinghamshire Council to be assessed and (hopefully) actioned. If you are interested in being part of the Love Beaconsfield organising team or would like to volunteer for future initiatives, please contact us at TheBecSoc@gmail.com.
